COUN 544 - Mental Health Assessment, Diagnosis, and Treatment Planning

3 Credits
Addresses individual diagnosis from a variety of perspectives: biologic, developmental, environmental, cultural and interpersonal. It will provide students with a broad theoretical base for understanding psychopathology, from not only an individual, descriptive, symptom perspective as presented in the DSM-5, but also from a contextual systemic perspective including developmental hallmarks, familial patterns and socio-cultural contributors. This ability to diagnose will form a beginning foundation for treatment planning associated with various diagnostic categories.
Prerequisite(s): COUN 541 - Skills and Techniques in Counseling , COUN 552 - Developmental Theories and Applications  and COUN 514 - Multicultural Counseling
