SPEC 350 - Reading Disabilities: Assessment and Intervention Practices


3 Credits
This course prepares candidates to identify signs of the three common reading disability profiles in K-12 student populations: Dyslexia, Specific Reading Comprehension (S-RC) Disability and Mixed-Type Reading Disability. In addition, candidates will learn how to screen K-12 students for Dyslexia, the most common form of reading disability. They will learn to deliver reading interventions from a diagnostic perspective, explicit, systematic and multi-sensory approach. Candidates will explore these matters in relation to native and non-native speakers of English.
Prerequisite(s): SPEC 217 - Foundations of Special Education  and SPEC 275 - Curriculum and Instruction in Special Education  
Corequisite(s): SPEC 343 - Educational Assessment  and EDUC 322 - Developmental Reading in the Elementary School
