BIOL 418 - Microbial Ecology/Environmental Microbiology


4 Credits
Ecological interactions between microbes:  viruses, bacteria, archae, some protists and fungi. Roles of microorganisms in relation to animal and plants.  Function of microbes in modifying climate and the physical environment. Student research projects provide opportunity to investigate areas of personal interest. Three hours lecture. Three hour laboratory per week reviews basic and advanced techniques, followed by project-based research. Projects may require additional time outside of the lab period depending upon the nature of the project. This is one choice of the capstone courses required for majors. 
Prerequisite(s):   and   .  A prior course in Microbiology or Ecology is required.
