EDUC 510 - Children and Mathematics 3 Credits A study of the process of teaching and learning mathematics at the elementary-middle school level. This process includes the planning, implementation, and evaluation of mathematics curriculum at these levels for all students. In this course, we will focus on how students learn mathematics, what pedagogies promote mathematical thinking and how teachers can build a community of learning for mathematics that helps all children to become confident in doing mathematics. The course will also address English Language Learners and students who may be identified with Special Needs in Mathematics. Assignments built into the course are designed to increase student learning through Unit design, lesson planning, the integration of technology into mathematics teaching, and reflection on learning as we progress through the course of study.
