Biol 115 - Introduction to Life Sciences for Elementary School Teachers

Biology is the study of life and living systems.  In this course, we will explore the biological definition and basis of life, and how humans influence these processes.  Topics of this laboratory-based course include: chemical basis of life cellular biology, cellular division, energy systems, biological levels of organization, adaptation and evolution, and environmental science.  The laboratories will be inquire-based experiments which use the scientific method. The main objective of this course is to give future school teachers the opportunity to study biological science at a sufficient level so they can gain the knowledge needed as classroom teachers to teach aspects of life science.  Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory per week.  Lab fee: $50.  (SI) (LAS)
