Accounting, B.S.

Career Opportunities and Graduate School Preparation

Accounting majors have achieved professional certification (Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant, etc.) and many have gone on to earn graduate degrees. The baccalaureate Accounting program, when combined with the University’s Master of Science in Management, meets the state of Connecticut’s 150-hour educational requirement to become a CPA. As an undergraduate student in good academic standing (B average or better), you are permitted to take two graduate Business courses in your senior year, which can count towards your Master of Science in Management at USJ. Upon completion of the bachelor’s degree, you may enroll in the graduate program and are exempt from any graduate admission exams.

Graduates of the Accounting program have been employed by many leading companies, including PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, Deloitte & Touche, IBM, Blum Shapiro, United Technologies, Aetna, Pfizer, The Travelers, The Hartford, and KPMG.

Program Outcomes

The student will:

  • Understand accounting principles at a level that provides preparation for an advanced accounting degree
  • Put into practice those principles and skills acquired. These skills are often demonstrated in an internship as well as in class exercises.
  • Understand the various responsibilities of modern accounting personnel
  • Understand the ethical and legal aspects of business, accounting and auditing

The Accounting program at the University of Saint Joseph meets the educational requirements of the Connecticut State Board of Accountancy.
