Public Health, M.P.H.

Public health is the art and science of protecting and enhancing the health of human populations and communities. Within the field of public heath the Master of Public Health (M.P.H) is the primary professional degree. The M.P.H will prepare students to identify health needs of communities, promote health, and reduce health disparities.

Graduates with an M.P.H are employed by local and state health departments, federal agencies such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, non-profit organizations, and health care and academic organizations.

The M.P.H at USJ is a fully online, part time format requiring 42 credits. Students will gain a foundation in the five core disciplines in public health: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Social and Behavioral Health, Public Health Policy and Management, and Environmental Health.

Admissions

Acceptance decisions are made on a rolling basis for a fall term start

The following are required for admission:

  • Online Application
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or the equivalent
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or equivalent
  • Official transcripts from all schools attended
  • Letter of intent explaining why you are interested in the MPH program and your career goals
  • Resume or CV
  • Two letters of reference from faculty or professionals familiar with your work

Course work and/or experiences (volunteer or work) in community health or social science strengthens your application.

Elective Courses (9-12 credits)


Electives will be announced per term by the Nutrition and Public Health Department.
