PPOA 425 - The Law as it Applies to the Elderly and Disabled 3 Credits This course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of elder law and disability law from a sociological perspective. Emphasis is placed on programs available for the elderly and disabled in areas such as health care (Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care insurance), housing (retirement communities, assisted living, home equity conversion, nursing homes), estate and personal planning for incapacitation, autonomy and the right to refuse treatment, end of life issues and conservatorship.
