PUBH 320 - Research Methods 3 Credits This course introduces research study design and methods of data collection for applied public health research. The course begins with an exploration of the different types of research and the research process in public health. It will then introduce qualitative and quantitative research methods using examples from a variety of health topics. Specifically, we will discuss conducting a literature review, developing research questions and hypotheses, exposure and outcome measurement, creating data collection tools such as surveys and interviews, and writing and editing for research. Students will also learn about ethical issues in research. Over the course of the semester, students complete a variety of practical exercises designed to gain experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods and will develop a research proposal on a topic of interest.
