SOCW 673 - Social Work Practice with African American Families 3 Credits This course is designed to provide a historical context for understanding and intervening with contemporary African American families. It offers a theoretical and clinical lens for examining factors related to the quality of mental health among those families including historical and contemporary barriers to care such as racism, lack of cultural awareness among providers and long-standing cultural stigmas and biases. The course facilitates knowledge building and skill development for carrying out clinical social work interventions with this population.
