NURS 500 - Philosophy of Science/Nursing Theory 3 Credits This course consists of an introduction to the evolution, nature, and practice applications of nursing philosophy and theoretical foundations. By analyzing and critiquing various philosophical models of nursing thought and practice, students have the opportunity to identify elements of their own personal philosophy as professional nurses, to explore how nursing theory informs their personal philosophy, and to consider how both philosophy and theory affect their nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on encouraging students to engage in critical and creative thinking to challenge established patterns of thought, to more fully appreciate the value of an introspective and theory-based approach to nursing practice, and to write in a thoughtful, logical, and scholarly manner.
