CRMJ 220 - Law Enforcement in America 3 Credits This course examines the role of law enforcement in American society. The course will explore the history and development of policing; philosophy of the law enforcement function; the role of police in a democratic and pluralistic society; hiring, training, and career practices and opportunities; police operational principles and practices; police subculture; legal issues; police discretion, use of force, corruption, and deviance; law enforcement accountability; and current problems and challenges confronting the police in the relationship to the community they serve. Prerequisite(s): CRMJ 102 - Introduction to Criminal Justice
