HESC 350 - Health Communication for a Diverse and Changing World


3 Credits
This course covers applied health communication research and theory across a variety of communication contexts, including interpersonal, organizational, intercultural, and mediated. Within these contexts, the course explores research approaches across quantitative and qualitative methods. The course is organized to offer interdisciplinary knowledge, skills, and tools necessary for careers in health communication, as well as continuing education beyond the undergraduate degree. With the successful completion of this course, students will be able to (a) analyze how messages from interpersonal and media sources affect health beliefs and behaviors, (b) evaluate the quality of communication in health and illness contexts, and (c) apply this knowledge to become a more active participant in your own healthcare.
