EDUC 507 - Developmental Reading in the Elementary School 3 Credits This course is an introduction to the theories, philosophies, methods and practices essential to the teaching of reading and writing and learning to read and write in today’s society with a focus on teacher as researcher. Included are the five components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension), word recognition, standards and assessment, critical and creative reading, and the reading and writing connection as they interconnect and perform in a holistic classroom.
