Cultures, Arts and Literatures

The Cultures, Arts and Literatures Department seeks to enrich lives by providing multiple and relevant course offerings, study away opportunities, internships, deep cultural immersion. The department provides a creative exchange of ideas in and outside of class.

The study of language engages students in reflection on other cultures and widens their world perspective in ways other fields cannot. It helps them analyze their own culture with the goal of being better citizens both globally and locally. Language study is especially important in the context of professional and career pursuits in today’s multicultural society and global economy.

Courses offered in Fine and Performing Arts include: Art History, Dance, Drama, Music, and Studio Arts. These areas of study enable individuals to explore critical and creative ways to comprehend arts created in the past as well as providing methods to explore one’s own creative contributions through visual arts, dance, drama, and music. Performances occur in the Hoffman Auditorium, Carol Autorino Center for the Arts and Humanities. A variety of interesting internships are also offered at the USJ Art Museum and at local art museums.
