General Track
The Health Science major offers students the option to study the science of health from an interdisciplinary perspective that prepares them for non-clinical entry-level positions in various aspects of health care and the insurance industry. A Health Science major provides a strong foundation for admission to many health and science related graduate programs (OT, PT, PA).
Pre-PA Track
The 7 semester Pre-PA track is open to high school graduates who meet the admissions requirements specific to the program and then meet the yearly benchmarks (as laid out below) through their junior year. Students that meet all the benchmarks and pass an in person interview are then guaranteed a seat in the USJ PA program beginning the January after their 7th semester.
Admission Criteria Pre-PA Track
- Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 (unweighted, core courses)
- SAT score of 1150
- Completion of 2 semesters each of biology, chemistry, and algebra II
- Essay
Progression Standards for the Pre-PA Track in Health Science Major
- Throughout curriculum a “C” or better in all major and supporting courses
- All major and supporting courses must be taken at USJ
- No repeat courses without permission of major advisor/program director
- Absence of disciplinary actions
- Maintain ability to meet PA Studies Technical Standards with or without accommodations
- End of Freshman Spring Semester
- Cumulative 2.75 GPA or higher
- End of Sophomore Spring Semester
- Cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
- End of Junior Spring Semester
- Cumulative 3.25 GPA or higher
- Successful completion of in-person interview for PA Studies Program
- End of Senior Fall Semester
- Cumulative 3.25 GPA or higher
- Completion of 250 hours of experience in the last 5 years (health care, research, volunteer, shadow)
