With a growing population of English language learners, TESOL Education is a major need in the area and throughout the state of Connecticut. This program will provide the practical learning, knowledge, skills and strategies to use in your classroom today. The program will also help teachers develop stronger relationships with all students but particularly English language learners and their families.
Acceptance requirements
- Admission application and nonrefundable $50 admission fee
- A conferred bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
- A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.50
- Two official transcripts of all undergraduate work and any prior graduate work
- Two letters of recommendation accompanied by the Letter of Recommendation Cover sheet www.usj.edu/gradforms. Note: Recommendations must be obtained from individuals who are not family members, personal friends or members of the USJ Department of Education.
- A letter of intent.
Continuation requirements
Candidates must earn a C or better in all courses for continuous progress through the program. After 12 credits, candidates must maintain a GPA of 2.67 or higher throughout the program.
Exit requirements
Successful completion of the captstone practicum EDUC 579 - TESOL Practicum

Required courses (30 credits)
The program includes all required courses for Connecticut teachers holding a teaching license to be eligible for cross-endorsement in TESOL and bilingual education. There are no electives in the program.
