The University of Saint Joseph’s Doctor of Pharmacy program enables students to earn a Pharm.D. degree in just three years. The program promotes the emergence of competent and compassionate pharmacists who can advance pharmacy practice models, engage in community service, and foster the advancement of research and scholarship. Emphasizing real-world application, USJ’s Pharm.D. program prepares students to sit for the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination® (NAPLEX) exam and pursue careers in clinical research, medical sales, pharmacology, product/process development, and beyond.

First professional (P1) year

In the first year, called P1, students are introduced to a mix of classroom work and professional pharmacy experience. In the classroom, students move as a group, or cohort, through a modified block system. They concentrate on one subject area at a time.

The professional pharmacy experiences component, called Experiential Education, is divided into two main phases. The Introductory phase, in the first two years, allows students to apply classroom knowledge in a practice environment.

The second professional year, P2, continues with a mixture of classroom and professional experience.

Third professional (P3) year

The Advanced Phase of pharmacy practice experience is made up of six rotations throughout the P3 year, which occur in a variety of practice settings. Four of these are required and two serve as electives. The P3 year concludes with an integrated capstone course just prior to graduation.
