Health Science, B.S.

General Track

The Health Science major offers students the option to study the science of health from an interdisciplinary perspective that prepares them for non-clinical entry-level positions in various aspects of health care and the insurance industry.  A Health Science major provides a strong foundation for admission to many health and science related graduate programs (OT, PT, PA).

Pre-PA Track

The 7 semester Pre-PA track is open to high school graduates who meet the admissions requirements specific to the program. Students who meet all the progression standards for the Pre-PA track and pass an in person interview are then guaranteed a seat in the USJ PA program beginning the January after their 7th semester.

Admission Criteria Pre-PA Track in Health Science Major

  • Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 (unweighted, core courses)
  • Completion of 2 semesters each of biology and chemistry, algebra II, and pre-calculus
  • Essay

Progression Standards for the Pre-PA Track in Health Science Major

  • Throughout curriculum earn a “B-” or better in all major and supporting courses
  • All major and supporting courses must be taken at USJ
  • No repeat courses without permission of major advisor/program director
  • Absence of disciplinary actions
  • Maintain ability to meet PA Studies Technical Standards with or without accommodation
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher at the end of Junior year
  • Completion of 1000 hours of field experience in the last five years (healthcare, research, volunteer, shadow, etc)
  • Completion of a successful in-person interview for the Physician Assistant Studies Program

3+3 Pharmacy Track 

The 6 semester 3+3 Pharm D.  track is open to high school graduates who meet the admissions requirements specific to the program.Students who meet all the progression standards for the 3+3 Pharmacy track and pass an in person interview are then guaranteed a seat in the USJ Pharmacy program beginning the August after their 6th semester.

Admission Criteria 3+3 Pharmacy Track in Health Science Major

  • Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 (unweighted, core courses)
  • Completion of 2 semesters each of biology, chemistry, and algebra II
  • Essay

Progression Standards for the 3+3 Pharmacy Track in Health Science Major

  • Throughout curriculum earn a “B-” or better in all major and supporting courses
  • Take all Pharmacy prerequisite courses at USJ
  • No repeat courses without permission of major advisor/program director (may delay matriculation into the Pharmacy Program)
  • Absence of disciplinary actions
  • Maintain ability to meet  Pharmacy Standards with or without accommodation
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher at the end of Junior year
  • Completion of a successful in-person interview for the Pharm D. Program

Required Courses (39 Credits General Track, 45 credits Pre-PA Track)


These courses are required of both General and Pre-PA track with noted exceptions

Optional Health Communication Concentration


Students in any of the three Health Science tracks may choose to add a nine credit concentration in Health Communication.
