Do you look at the problems in the world and think: we can solve these problems, we can make it better! Engineers use science and math to develop technology that improves the human condition. For those interested in helping solve the world’s problems through engineering, USJ’s Engineering Science degree provides a balance of rigorous course work in engineering with a strong component of liberal arts courses.

What sets USJ apart from other engineering programs is that our Bachelors of Arts in Engineering Science degree is designed for students who are interested in an engineering career, but who also seek a well-rounded foundation in the liberal arts. The USJ Engineering Science program is grounded in the liberal arts and is rooted in the University’s long tradition of producing graduates with a deep understanding of ethical, moral and social issues.

A degree in Engineering Science will prepare students for careers across the engineering and technology disciplines. Engineering students will benefit from USJ’s strong ties to major businesses and communities in the Greater Hartford region, providing internships that bridge the gap between classroom learning with real-world experiences. Engineering Science graduates will be prepared for direct employment in engineering, including careers in manufacturing engineering, systems engineering, industrial engineering, and many other branches of engineering. Additionally, students can tailor their degree by choosing from optional program tracks including business management, ethics, and a track for those pursuing graduate study in engineering.

Program Outcomes

  • Students will be able to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems by applying the appropriate principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  • Students will gain demonstrable knowledge and skills necessary for future employment in engineering and related fields as well as for admission into graduate engineering programs.
  • Students will be able to effectively conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw sound conclusions.
  • Students will be able to communicate technical issues effectively with a range of audience, through writing, digital, and/or oral presentations.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the broader ethical, societal, global, and environmental contexts of decision making in various engineering settings.
  • Students will be able to effectively work within a diverse team where members work collaboratively and inclusively to establish goals and meet objectives.

Continuation Requirements

A grade of C or better in required major courses (engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics, and chemistry) and a C- or better in all other courses.
