EDUC 532 - Curriculum in the Secondary School


3 Credits
This is the capstone course for secondary licensure candidates. The course focuses on advanced theory, recent scholarship on pedagogy, and emphasizes best practice for instructional practice, learning activities, and multiple measures of assessment. Topics discussed include backward design, cooperative learning, ecology of the classroom space, supporting students learning English, differentiation techniques, and engaging and motivating diverse learners. In addition, the courses addresses the gap between the written and enacted curriculum with special attention to the needs and learning challenges as they occur in the moment. Candidates will teach demo lessons in class and receive feedback. Students write a major, culminating paper on teaching pedagogy. Intensive fieldwork is required.
Prerequisite(s): EDUC 503 - Adolescence , EDUC 528 - Instruction and Curriculum for Secondary Teaching  and EDUC 512 - Teaching for Learning in the Content Areas  or concurrent with EDUC 512 - Teaching for Learning in the Content Areas
