NURS 502 - Advanced Practice in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing I


4 Credits
This course is the first of the clinical courses that provide students with the opportunity to integrate and apply advanced practice knowledge and skills about psychotherapeutic approaches to the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions across the lifespan.  Evidence-based content related to human psycho-social-cultural development, theoretical and technical elements of the nurse-patient therapeutic relationship, behavioral health assessment data and psychotherapeutic concepts and skills integral to application of therapy modalities will be discussed and analyzed. These include psychodynamic treatment and group therapy approaches for children, adolescents, adults, and elders.  The course offers experiential learning of practice skills and patient case analysis related to these psychotherapeutic approaches to assist students in designing and applying holistic, comprehensive plans of care that reflect increasing competence in clinical decision-making. 150 clinical hours required. Clinical fees may be associated with this course.
Prerequisite(s): NURS 530 - Neuropsychopharmacology  
Other: Clinical hours will be 180 until summer 2025.
