BIOL 205 - Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Biology 4 Credits An introductory course covering the molecular components of cells and their role in cellular function. Emphasis will be placed on cellular structure and function, chemical components of cells, energy and biosynthesis, the functions of proteins, the production of proteins by cells and the three main cellular processes by which amino acid sequences of proteins are stored as DNA and replicated, transcribed into messenger RNA, and finally translated into proteins. The cell cycle, control of gene expression and molecular basis of heredity will also be explored. Lab: utilizing cutting edge molecular techniques and directed inquiry experiments. Prerequisite(s): OR OR their equivalent OR permission of instructor. Other: Laboratory fee: $50
