NURS 521 - Advanced Practice in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing III: Capstone 4 Credits This capstone clinical course provides the opportunity for students to review and synthesize all previous learned content and skills related to advanced practice nursing care and treatment of individuals and populations experiencing the full range of mental health issues and alterations across the lifespan. Emphasis is on assessment, diagnosis, development, and implementation of comprehensive, culturally appropriate, evidence-based plans of care to manage mental health conditions that promote health and enhance quality of life. The professional and managerial functions of the advanced practice nurse in delivering psychiatric care to individuals, groups and populations across the lifespan will be discussed and analyzed. Students are offered content and activities to prepare them for taking the ANCC PMHNP certification examination.
Prerequisite(s): NURS 507 - Advanced Physical Assessment , NURS 530 - Neuropsychopharmacology , NURS 544 - Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Health Conditions , NURS 502 - Advanced Practice in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing I , NURS 504 - Advanced Practice in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing II Other: For students matriculating into the M.S Nursing Fall 2021 and later NURS 521 will be a 4 credit course.
